Blog Update Summer 2016
Hello, end of Summer!
Where the hell did you come from?
It's been a hot minute (last post was Women to Watch in August), and I think it's as good a time as ever for a quick blog update. Where have we been? Where are we going? Frankly, we all could use some organization once in a while.
First, let's recap the summer months.
In May, June, July, and August, One Critical Bitch has:
Introduced and maintained the Women to Watch list.
This was my greatest success of the summer. I hope this is keeping you as tuned in to what women are making in film and television as it is me. Just assembling this list at the beginning of each month has made me more aware of how much (and sometimes how little) women are working in the industry. I'm so happy to continue sharing it with you - you'll find September's edition up on the blog this Thursday.
Kept up with the latest Netflix original shows.
Stranger Things was a bit of a toss-up for me. But it certainly brought on some heady (and pretty fucking funny) conversation.
Reviewed some flicks.
Sort of what I do. The Invitation made my love for Karyn Kusama grow even brighter, and The Lobster gave me strange and lovely Pinter-esque feelings. Long live horror and absurdism. Preferably together, if possible.
Said goodbye to Anton Yelchin.
This was hard to deal with - he was a young dude, and someone I had just been talking about in Green Room weeks before. I compiled a list of his best performances (in my opinion) - hope you've checked some off your list.
Taught you somethin' - I hope.
How to take shit (at the end of April, but I bet it took you at least 30 days to take it to heart), and how to make shit (Skillshare film classes!). I tried my damnedest to be your alternative film school of choice.
That seems like a lot. But honestly, I'm not sure it was enough. I spent a lot of time on projects outside of OneCriticalBitch. For instance -
This bitch also spent her summer:
- Celebrating a birthday (Not telling you which one, but I am old enough to appreciate a Freddy Krueger birthday cake).
- Working on #The100DayProject on Instagram.
- Drawing and painting pretty much day in and day out.
And now it's over - Summer, that is (there are exactly 23 days left, so use them wisely). It's terribly sad. But look at all we've accomplished! And better yet, as Fall creeps in, my favorite series ever creeps right in with it. That's right - it's almost time for...
31 Days of Horror
It's been nearly a year since the inaugural 31 Horror Movies in 31 Days, and consequently, a year since the first post EVER on this blog. Happy Anniversary to Me! I'm proud. I'm excited. And I'm ready to do it again.
What else is coming up on next month?
Here are my plans, wishes, hopes, and dreams:
- An interview with one of my favorite directors, writers, and now Off-Broadway playwright (!!!), Rebekah Suellau.
- Women to Watch, September Edition. The new (and FULL!) list goes up Thursday, September 1st.
- Reviews of Kubo and The Two Strings, The Wiz, and Batman v. Superman ('cause who wouldn't want to review that mess?!)
Will that keep you satiated? Can you contain yourself until October 1st? I know I can't ;-)
'Til Next Time,
